KMFDM September 2009 House of Blues Boston, MA

KMFDM
September 2009 House of Blues Boston, MA Live Photos & Show Review by Lena Lamoray

The German phenomenon known as KMFDM brought their KEIN MITLEID WORLD TOUR 2009 to Boston since they are “celebrating 25 years of the ultra-heavy beat.” KMFDM wrote the book on industrial music and rightfully so, they possess what many industrial bands are missing, powerful vocals and a talented real band to back them up. LUCIA CIFARELLI is an adept vocalist with enough power behind her voice to illuminate a small village. I would rank LUCIA as one of the best female vocalists I have seen live. ANDY SELWAY is one momentous drummer with just the right amount of aggression, flare and handsomeness to keep everyone captivated. JULES HODGSON and STEVE WHITE combined forces to deliver double guitar mayhem. SASCHA KONIETZKO is the founder and authority of KMFDM and I don’t think anyone could ever say no to him. His live presence is as demanding as his voice. KMFDM is a force to be reckoned with and after twenty five years they are still going strong by packing in clubs and delivering superb live performances. They have a strong fan base that is constantly evolving. Go and see KMFDM live and add their previous and current releases to your album collection. BLITZ is their newest release on KMFDM RECORDS/METROPOLIS.

MIKA Live Photos & Review The Orpheum Theatre Boston, MA

MIKA
October 2009 Orpheum Theatre Boston, MA
Live Photos and Show Review by Lena Lamoray

I was first introduced to MIKA on THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW in 2007 and I have been hooked ever since. MIKA fills the void that is missing from music today. He is bubbling with charisma, flare and unabashed talent. His album LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION got my attention with LOVE TODAY and GRACE KELLY being my absolute favorites. THE BOY WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, his new album came out in September and is definitely worth owning so pick up both and go into a MIKA induced feel good coma.

It was my first time seeing him live and honestly I knew he was going to be good but he proved to be magnificent. You can tell MIKA puts his all into his live shows. Everything is carefully planned out from the stage sets to the black light make-up. I love it when artists put the time in and develop a live stage show that tells a story and leaves us eager to know how it ends. I can’t think of a show that I have ever seen that has pieced together a moon landing, a half naked astronaut, a teapot on steroids and a puppet show and made a magical evening out of it. MIKA was performing so hard during the first couple of songs that he split his trousers. Luckily, this isn’t a death metal show so a costume change in front of us was a welcome event. MIKA is a good looking man with a tall in shape physique that includes perfectly tousled hair, nice feet and did I mention his British accent. I can certainly see why women and men fawn over him. All that being said and I still have not even gotten to the best part of MIKA, his voice! To say this man can sing doesn’t do him justice. His voice is in the realms of FREDDIE MERCURY and GEORGE MICHAEL. His voice is just so pure and downright beautiful and he can pull it off live. In fact, I have absolutely nothing negative to say about his show at all. Everything was perfect and the show featured some of my favorite things; retro clothing, feather hats, costume changes, colorful sets, moons, confetti and of course, MIKA. He even invited the crowd to sing with him. Of course, my favorite performance was LOVE TODAY but perhaps that is because that was my introduction into the wonderful world of MIKA. One thing is for certain, when you see MIKA live you will leave feeling a million times better than when you went in. With all the bad things happening in the world today it is nice to take a break from them and go on a musical journey with a true inspiration. Thanks MIKA!

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE 2009 9/22/09 Agganis Arena Boston, MA

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE 2009 9/22/09 Agganis Arena Boston, MA Live Photos & Show Review by Lena Lamoray

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is in my opinion the best dance show on television. They bring in world renowned choreographers like MIA MICHAELS, SONYA TAYEH, TYCE DIORIO, MANDY MOORE, ADAM SHANKMAN and many more. They even bring back their most talented contestants as featured choreographers like TRAVIS WALL. All styles of dance from Broadway to Bollywood are covered on the show. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE live is a beautiful and highly recommended experience. You will witness a cast introduction, group numbers, duets, solos and everything else in between. There is nothing better than seeing you favorite dancers performing the best numbers of the season right in front of you. It is a festival of high kicks, leaps, flips, jazz hands and yes splits galore! What more could you possibly want? JEANINE MASON is the season five champ and BRANDON BRYANT was the runner up but by far my favorite of the show. BRANDON has the most breathtakingly statuesque physique I have ever seen. He is a powerhouse and lifted his partner, the very stunning, JANETTE MANURARA over his head with one arm like it was nothing. BRANDON and JANETTE proved that disco is not dead it was just waiting for them to revive it. They are the disco masters! Go and see SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE live and don’t miss Season 6 on FOX now.

PSYCHIC LEADS BRENNAN AND BOOTH TO AN UNMARKED GRAVE ON THE SEASON PREMIERE OF “BONES”

PSYCHIC LEADS BRENNAN AND BOOTH TO AN UNMARKED GRAVE ON THE SEASON PREMIERE OF “BONES”

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, ON FOX Cyndi Lauper Guest-Stars

It’s been six weeks since Booth and Brennan have seen each other. Booth has been recovering from brain surgery, and Brennan has been on a dig in Guatemala. Angela’s psychic, Avalon Harmonia (guest star Cyndi Lauper), reveals while reading Angela’s tarot cards that there are multiple bodies buried under a Washington, DC fountain. Angela shares the information with Brennan and Booth, but they’re both a little skeptical considering the source. The lead pans out, and the duo find the remains of 11 bodies exactly where the psychic said they would be. Meanwhile, Sweets has certified Booth mentally fit to return to duty after his brain surgery, but Booth is still experiencing some side effects from the coma in the “Harbingers in the Fountain” season premiere episode of BONES airing Thursday, Sept. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Forward & Summary by Lena Lamoray

I took part in a conference call with EMILY DESCHANEL and HART HANSON from FOX’s hit series, BONES. In case you have not made the switch to digital television or have been hibernating I will give you three reasons to watch BONES: EMILY DESCHANEL, DAVID BOREANAZ and HART HANSON. EMILY gives an award winning performance as the methodical and brilliant DR. TEMPERANCE BRENNAN. DAVID plays FBI SPECIAL AGENT SEELEY BOOTH, a wise cracking, no holds barred agent. HART HANSON is the reason why we have BONES since he was kind enough to put his original dream of being a “heavy metal guitar god” on hold in order to lend his talents to the television world. He is the Creator and Executive Producer of BONES and works at keeping us entertained.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH ON FOX WILL BE THE SEASON PREMIERE OF BONES WITH CYNDI LAUPER GUEST STARRING! WATCH IT!!!

Some conference call highlights of questions answered by EMILY DESCHANEL (Dr. Temperance “BONES” Brennan) and HART HANSON (Creator):

ZOOEY DESCHANEL will be guest starring at some point and it looks like it will be the Christmas episode, hopefully. BONES is going to continue to cope with everything rationally and use her big brain instead of her heart. Everyone is getting impatient on ANGELA & HODGINS getting together. Fans vocalize their opinions to HART all the time. BONES really wants to have BOOTH’s baby and not just a baby but doesn’t know it yet. That issue will be addressed at some point in the series. DAVID BOREANAZ’s real life baby is doing great and he is a much happier and calmer man since she has arrived. BONES will be coming back for another season at the same time slot on the same day. Even without the past stability of the same time slot BONES has grown and has developed a strong fan base. BOOTH starts out the season wearing black ties and minus his cocky belt buckles and that can be attributed to his recent surgery and he will need some time to get back to normal. The crossover between BONES and LIE TO ME is a work in progress and will hopefully work its way into happening. T.J. THYNE has the most time off so he often tweets and keeps everyone up to date. HART agreed to do the show since he could do what he wanted with it and got to add humor and a special chemistry between the characters. HART also points out the fact that the remains that are used on the show are barely recognizable so it makes the humor easier since the actors are not standing over someone’s mother. They make it a point to make the bodies hideous enough that it is almost funny and borders on the grotesque and macabre. HART also noted that the show is not a big shiny show since most of the cast is not that way with the exception of DAVID who is the biggest personality of the show. HART talked about how the show is politically incorrect and is still amazed that they got the line, “Jesus was a zombie” spoken by BONES to air. They are happy that they are able to use the show to get out different points of view on religion, sexuality and more in a fair and sometimes humorous way. HART’s favorite episodes are the ones dealing with religion. HART thinks that secretly BIG BANG THEORY was started because of EMILY. BONES made nerdy cool. WWW.LENALAMORAY.COM

An interview with TOMASZ ORION WROBLEWSKI From BEHEMOTH

BEHEMOTH
An interview with TOMASZ ORION WROBLEWSKI
Interviewed at the Comcast Theater in CT at the 2009 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL
Interviewed by Brandon Lee
Forward and Live Photos by Lena Lamoray

BEHEMOTH has been bringing their visionary construct to the masses since 1991. They take their audience on a visual and auditory journey into their dark world. They are frequently met with opposition due to their artistic interpretation and their favor of the dark arts. Their videos depict vivid imagery that some people choose not to handle but I feel they are inventive and perfect accompaniments to their music. BEHEMOTH just released their ninth studio album, EVANGELION and it available everywhere on METAL BLADE RECORDS so pick up a copy.

Brandon: Let’s talk about your new record.

ORION: It’s our 9th record and we tried to stay more focused on the music itself and the atmosphere. With this album, we are kind of going back, I would say.

Brandon: So, would you say this is a more sinister piece?

ORION: There are so many brutal death metal bands, and we are not trying to compete. People say we are blackened death metal or extreme metal, or whatever. We don’t really fit into any labels.

Brandon: Well, I guess your image, the corpse paint, is the only thing that can sell you as black metal then.

ORION: Probably.

Brandon: So, your fan response in America is very positive, and I have no idea what goes on in Europe. All I know is you’re close to getting banned from your homeland.

ORION: Yeah, they are called the All-Polish Committee for Defense Against Sects. They are giving us a hard time; they are some kind of organization working for one of the government parties. We had some shows cancelled, some court trials, and so far we have won them all.

Brandon: This is all for your anti-Christian act?

ORION: Yes. They are actually giving us a lot of press. Like mainstream kind of press, this is good, even if they speak badly about us.

Brandon: Well, in America, not too many people will chew you out for saying “Fuck Jesus!”

ORION: Still we are having protests at the shows.

Brandon: Well, it gives you more press, like you said, which worked for Marilyn Manson, who you are on tour with.

Brandon: I am to understand you guys are regular guys who enjoy football and lift weights for fun?

ORION: Yeah, we spend most of our time on tour, and once you realize it is your life happening, you should stop treating your body like a bag full of shit. Because when you’re on tour, you’re eating shit, and doing crazy stuff and it doesn’t affect you until the time that you realize that that’s your life and you’re not going to go back home for months. And, Behemoth stage shows are kind of demanding.

Brandon: I just heard your new record leaked on the internet. Now a bunch of people are downloading it for free. Is that the kind of thing that bothers you?

ORION: It is too bad it was a little too early, but it was going to the internet at some time. Still, whoever wants to buy it is going to buy it anyway. Metal music is kind of specific. People buy the records just to have them.

Brandon: So if they download the music for free, then they better go buy a $20 t-shirt!

ORION: Yes! Please. That is awesome.

2009 CRUE FEST 2 Live photos MOTLEY CRUE GODSMACK COMCAST CENTER Mansfield, MA

2009 CRUE FEST 2

COMCAST CENTER Mansfield, MA
Live photos and review by Lena Lamoray

CRUE FEST returned this year with a second installment of new bands and the legendary rock darlings, MOTLEY CRUE. The Monster Energy Stage featured REV THEORY, 16 SECOND STARE, CAVO and SHRAM. The main stage brought us MOTLEY CRUE, GODSMACK, THEORY OF A DEADMAN, DROWNING POOL and CHARM CITY DEVILS.

The classic hard rock band from Baltimore, CHARM CITY DEVILS opened the main stage and played a tight set that started the night out right. They are signed to NIKKI SIX’s label, ELEVEN SEVEN MUSIC, for a good reason. Their music is a blend of classic, blues and rip roar n’ rock n’ roll.

These guys rock their tight pants and their guitar player, NICK KAY offered me up one hell of a handshake. DROWNING POOL is always a great band to catch live. I’ve seen them a few times and they always put on an energetic and pleasing show. I love the vintage style microphone that RYAN McCOMBS uses. DROWNING POOL has had their music featured in a bunch of films such as THE PUNISHER and more and just about every sporting event, especially the WWE. BODIES is the best rage ready rock hit for any event. I can honestly say that they are really just a bunch of laid back guys with really pleasant attitudes that just happen to put out music that will kick you in the ass. THEORY OF A DEADMAN remind me a lot of NICKELBACK but I think the pompadour sporting front man, TYLER CONNOLLY was having an off night because he was not pulling off some of his vocal ranges. I have never seen them live before but I have to believe he hits them a lot better on most nights. Someone get that man a cup of tea with honey! The band as a whole was good. GODSMACK is always a favorite in the Massachusetts area and the girls and guys (you know who you are) go crazy over SULLY ERNA perhaps because his name is so much fun to say. They have even invented a game that uses his name, odd I know. They brought back the use of the spotlight and that was well received. GODMACK loves their explosions! They sounded great and showcased their hits VOODOO, I STAND ALONE, STRAIGHT OUT OF LINE and more. Hopefully, we will have a new album in 2010.

The reason for the CRUE FEST 2 is of course MOTLEY CRUE. You want to talk about a stage set-up! The show opened to reveal a patient on a vintage hospital gurney being “cared” for by treacherous doctors. Then the band was revealed in a white padded room set where they performed the first song, DR. FEELGOOD and then the walls were lifted to showcase an elaborate stage with platforms and levels and dancing girls. MOTLEY CRUE certainly gives you your money’s worth with stage set galore. As a photographer you can not ask for anymore except of course for TOMMY LEE to be present. Damn, you sparklers and those overzealous hands of MR. LEE! This was my first time photographing MOTLEY CRUE and I really wanted to capture all of the members. Not to say that MORGAN ROSE didn’t do a great job. That guy is a true pro. He had little time to prepare but stepped up and filled some really, really big shoes. MOTLEY CRUE have been around since the early ‘80’s and still have withstood the test of time and remain relevant in today’s musical society. Many other bands have tried to be just like them but there will only be one MOTLEY CRUE that consists of VINCE NEIL, TOMMY LEE, MICK MARS and NIKKI SIXX. It is great to see MICK MARS performing and doing what he loves. He is certainly an inspiration to pretty much everyone. The live set highlights were KICKSTART MY HEART, WITHOUT YOU, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL, HOME SWEET HOME, GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS and more. MOTLEY CRUE live appeals to every sense, after all, no other band will ever sound, feel, look, taste and smell like MOTLEY CRUE.

GREEN DAY & THE BRAVERY TD Banknorth Garden Boston, MA Live Photos & Show Review

GREEN DAY

THE BRAVERY
TD BANKNORTH GARDEN in BOSTON, MA
JULY 20th 2009
LIVE PHOTOS and REVIEW by LENA LAMORAY

Could there be any better way of spending your birthday than photographing GREEN DAY and THE BRAVERY? Of course not! What a show and what a great couple of bands. I have seen THE BRAVERY live and interviewed them the last time they toured the area and they were great then but even better this time around. I thought they sounded perfect and all of the members stepped it up. JOHN CONWAY found his groove behind his keys and SAM ENDICOTT brought forth that crazed dancing and swinging that he is known for. He has such a lanky frame that it just works for him. I can’t stress enough how great they sounded while performing some fan favorite tunes such as AN HONEST MISTAKE, TIME WON’T LET ME GO and BELIEVE. It is fantastic to see them on tour with GREEN DAY.

GREEN DAY is finally back with a new album and tour and it is about time. We have all been waiting for this punk rock phenomenon to resurface. Their album 21st CENTURY BREAKDOWN has already spawned hits and it has only been released for a few months. Seeing GREEN DAY live is like the ultimate fan party. They invited fans far up in the rafters down and others to join them on stage and partake in the stage show and crowd surfing. It is nice to see a band so high up on the food chain that doesn’t treat their fans as prey. Energy is an understatement of what each member of this band possesses. I have never seen so many jumps, leaps and stage hi jinks in my life. BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG, MIKE DIRNT, TRE COOL and crew did an exceptional job of bringing this rock opera to life. Who can’t appreciate such songs as AMERICAN IDIOT, BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS, WAKE ME UP BEFORE SEPTEMBER ENDS, WHEN I COME AROUND, KNOW YOUR ENEMY and more. Live GREEN DAY surpassed any expectations that I had of them. Don’t miss this tour!
